Default street tires advice (again)....

Guys...I think I am back at square one....I was all set to order the Vredestein tires when two local dealers told me they don't make them for my 99 vette.

Tirerack suggested the Bridgestone Potenza RE 960 pole position. Another tire dealer suggested the BF Goodrich Super Sport AS or the Continental Extreme Trend 400.

Looking for street tires that will give me much better traction than the current runflats on my 400 RWHP w/ 3.90 gears '99 A4...and also drive decently in colder weather and in the rain.

I know everyone has a thought...but I am open to opinions.
Thanks!

I thought everyone was getting the Vredestein's. I think they are just back ordered. Or maybe they only make them in C5 Z06 sizes. Either way, PM "LDB C5" on here. He has the scoop on the Vredestein's and has some group pricing set up with a local dealer.

I would also look at BFG KDW2. I have 486 RWHP and they hook up great.

I just bought a set of BF Goodrich KDW's, drove them home in the light rain and took them through Solo II this weekend. I am pleased with them.

Nitto Drag Radials would be a good choice 305/35/18s and BFG KD (not KDW) in 295/35/18s (although not the best in the rain but not the wosrt either). The Nitto drags will hook you pretty good and still have acceptable street manners in the rain!

So far very happy with the Toyo T1r’s (stock Z06 sizes), held 1st gear WOT from a roll…

I think the rears are on backorder. If the dealers that you spoke with do not actively sell Vredestein; they may be feeding you a line of $hit to get you to buy what they have in stock.

Goodyear F1 GS-D3's. These are the best dry/wet tire you can get, with real world data to support it.

I got a set for my car last summer, mounted on some 18's all around. These things stick to the ground like glue.

Sorry that they don't carry the stock c5 sizes, i didn't know. Maybe just the stock c5z and higher? I don't have much experience with any other tires, except the kdw2s and they are nice tires as well.

They WERE Vredestein dealers...never said back order...just that they weren't available...perhaps they didn't want me to wait but just buy what they had available...Thx.

On my model year...I have 9 1/2 inch wheels in the rear...Vredestein, unfortunately, doesn't make their tires in that size...so its get different wheels or go with a different tire....I am going with a different tire....I think I settled on the GY F1 GS D3s....hey, anythings better than runflats..right?

Yes, they are on my ultra short list...been going back and forth between the GYs and BFs....I guess I can't go wrong with any of the suggestions I've been given.
Thanks!

Goodyear F1-D3's. They are a great all around tire. They are phenomenal in the wet. I have run them on my car at multiple road course events in the rain and really bad rain and they really work great enough to help me pass all wheel drive subaru's (partly skill and partly the tires). They are also quite good in the dry.

You were quite lucky to get that set too!

I'm bummed right now, cause they are no where to be found. I got my first set approx. 45M ago, I'm WAY overdue for new, and now I can't replace them, they are NO WHERE to be found. Even using the tip I told you last season.

It's looking like I have no choice but to try Michelin Pilot Sports, and I know I will not get 45M outta those puppies.

I just don't get why Goodyear makes a great tire, and then after a few years they are nowhere to be found. To me that is bad customer service, bad marketing, bad everything. The tires are PROVEN superior . . . yet not available.

M = thousand / it's a printing term

Default Michelin Pilot Sport A/S

I run the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S on my stock wheels and they are a great all-season time. I used to drive my '99 Corvette M6 all year round, and these tires performed really well in rain and snow. They are decent in dry: my car is stock and it holds WOT in any gear w/o slippage, as long as I launch below 1800rpm. They wear pretty well too: My fronts have over 30K miles on them, and the rears last about 20K miles. I recommend them for a year-round daily driver in colder climates.

I would look at the Nitto 555r2 or Toyo RA1
