Rte. 66 is an NHRA sanctioned track...YOU WILL NEED A HELMET that has the SNELL dated certification. If you run faster than 11.50 you will need a LOT more safety equipment starting with a roll bar and it gets more complicated from there. Test and tune is alot of fun you will have cars that run in the 8's all the way to grandma who is crankin' out 18's---but she too will have a helmet on.
I've been to 3 test and tunes at Rt. 66 last year and nobody was wearing helmets unless they were 12.50 or quicker. Maybe they changed the rules since then, but helmets were not required for all cars last year.
Kamel,
If it is raining then no, if the weather is nice, we are going in the morning. We have an alternative plan to go to Union Grove on Sunday(weather permitting).

Well hope you went as planned today as Sunday, 4-20-08, may have been the PERFECT day to hit Byron and weather could not have been better for this time of year (64 to 70 and sunny).
Did you go? Did you run your new Silver Z or some other toy? What et and mph did you lay down?

It was a perfect day indeed, too perfect. You had to wait three hours to make one run.....I'm too impatient for that, so I was merely a spectator for this one. My buddy with a bone stock 03Z wth DR's ran a 12.19 and a 12.31. We had a good time and I plan to get the Z on the track soon. And when I do, I will give you guys the numbers. I was the only C6Z up there, which was surprising to me.

Why am I not surprised to hear it was a Zoo there with the 70 degree Sunny weather and being one of the first good drag racing weather days of the year.
Hey you guys - 13.60 bone stock, 12.16 just "bolt on" mods, 11.24 heads and cam (mild), 10.88 Vortec (7 lbs.) THEN THE 427 - Best so far is 9.60 / 143 / 1.38 60'.
Goal was to have a 9 sec. "street legal" street / strip machine.
Dan Bills got a bug up his butt to push the motor to 1,000 HP with a mild set up. 07 was a disaster 3 broken rearends (bad Motive Gears) missed all the "Major" Events although I think we hold the "Quickest" C5 Pro Charged Car in the US - East Coast Guys are quiet about this one!
Believe it or not we will be running a C6 Z06 3.42 Super HP RPM rear end with our Chuck Johnson 4L60E Tranny along with a big "pile" of NHRA "SFI" stuff with the hopes of a couple of back to back 8.90's runs this year. Car is going back together at FLP as we speak!
Just tryin to represent the Chicago "guys" at the Drags!!
Signed up to run the IMSM "heads up" circuit this year!!

You go JR, best of luck on meeting your goals on your BEAST that is the king of the Chi-Town Vette drag racers that still is 100% street legal and driven.
Here's to getting those 8.90s bud and to a successful racing season!
After putting in my 3rd clutch in 3 seasons I just may one of these day throw in an auto tranny in my beast and start getting into the drag racing hobby again (which I do miss).
