Funny you mention that Bob, i got stopped the other day for this. I wonder if this law applies to limo's. Most of them are tinted.Matter of fact the law can go crazy on this and no front plates.
I've been lucky enough to just get warnings so far. Had to remove the dark tint on one of my cars because the wife didn't want a reason to get hassled whenever she drove the car Have light tint on my other cars without any issues so far.
When I was younger I got nabbed for tinted windows. Had my buddy give me some old tint and took it to court and told the judge I removed it and the ticket was dismissed. You can also get a note from your eye doctor(if relationship is good) stating your eyes are very sensitive to light and the window tint makes driving on subby days bearable.....

Limos are tinted on the "Rear" Passenger windows only, not the front drivers windows.
In IL you can go as dark as you like in the rear passenger and back windows, but no tint is legal on the front drivers/passengers or windshield.
Be careful with Umbra in AH, they did some 3M clearbra on my vehicle which turned out "ok" there is a blemish from a thumbprint on the front bumper that was "supposed to go away".....I also as a someone trustworthy person with my car reset my trip....my car was driven over 2 miles inside of a shop....how does that happen? I also saw some of their quality employees joy riding in some customers BMW M3 down the street and around the parking lots driving more that spirited.

Its not the easy anymore, the note must be from a Ophthalmologist or Oncologist and must be submitted to the secretary of state for approval and must be renewed every 6 months
i got my 06 silverado done by umbra..they did a pretty good job i had 2 layers of tint all around cept windsheild..i did the 2nd layer on the back 3 windows my self...never again ...tinting is NOT fun! haha
but besides that...when i got mine done at umbra i stayed there while they did it so no chances to #$%@ with my truck..
IMHO--they kinda rush their work..i know their experienced and all but...
ya...more chance of screw ups
