Default Humbling Experience

Had the car up at Road America in Elkhart Lake yesterday. Thought i could handle the Z pretty good. Thats until i did a ride along in another Z with a experienced auto crosser. OH MY GOD the nuts were in the throat a couple times, but i took in everything i could. I've got some ways to go, but man if anyone really wants to feel just what the car is capable of ,you have to try this. Absolutely fantastic.
By the way the ride along was in a 08 ZO6 with 500 miles on it. Gotta love that one.

Oh what a FREAKING BLAST ROAD AMERICA is, I went 4 Aprils ago in my C5 Z and most fun I ever had with the car (it a MOST DO for anyone who is into road racing)!

Did you go with the f-body outing I assume?

Some of the crazies in that group always have several wrecks at that outing ever year (there was one I went to and drove around a few ricers who has just wrecked ) and where there any wrecks when you went (and I hope not)!

Yes it was the MFBA event. There was quite a few vettes out there, along with some vipers and one GTR. One vette got totaled in turn 6, wife or girlfriend was taken to hospital. Seemed she would be okay, not the car thats for sure. Back end kicked out and he went straight into the wall. He must of been flying into that turn, because that seems the hardest place to wreck on that track.
This track is so fast, you really have to bring your witts with you, because one mistake and your done. I was so exhausted i only ran 3 sessions. Next time i book a room and stay.
Well ran event, which ran right on time. Definately going up in October for some more.

Yeah, that certainly is a very DANGEROUS track and many, many cars have wrecked there (and some deaths over the years), but I never had so much fun there in my vette it defintely is something that some one needs to experience as least once in their lifetime (if they have any desire to do so)!

Sorry to hear about that one totaled vette, good chance his insurance company won't cover the loss and for his sake I hope that is not the case and hope is girlfriend is ok.

If you do a google search there was a MASSIVE accident with vintage Ac Cobras and other classic race cars that had real racing history and about 20 of them were totaled on the long straight away just a few years ago (and they were professionals) and incurred millions and milllions of dollars in property damage.

If Tommy N sees this maybe he can post pics of that massive wreck on the long straight away with those vintage race cars that were worth HUGE $!!

I will see if I can find a link on that as the massive carnage of HUGE MONEY cars, with vintage racing history, reallly screwed up that day and these were Professional drivers in a competive race!

The straight is spooky, because your hitting triple digits going up the hill and you cant see anything. Makes the heart pump for sure.I can see a mojor debacle happening there.
Jim if you find the link, let me know. Nothing was mentioned yesterday on this. It is one fast and dangerous track.

Aww I had to miss it. I've gone for several years. I'll make their fall event though. The spring event always conflicts with my daughter's birthday. I'm attending next weekends NASA event. Some video from last year:

Was there enough attendance? The weather looked great for Saturday.

There are lights on the Dairy land bridge on the hill up slope that would warn you, plus the corner worker would get radioed about trouble. Always check the corner worker before the kink turn in too. He's warned me of accidents around the corner I couldn't see.
