Count your blessing

April 2 my father passed away due to a long struggle with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. He passed at the age of 74, and was able to live at home up until he passed. He was a good man and lived a good life. Last year he was awarded the Charles Taylor Master Mechanic Award for over 50 years in the aviation maintenance industry, either working or lecturing on single prop planes to Lear jets. His name is registered at the Smithsonian Institute. He was very proud of this achievement and we will truly miss him.

Saturday my moms father, my 97 year old, Grand father came up to spend some time with my mom. We were able to sit and talk about what we have, and Grandpa’s life in general. Grandpa keeps telling how his Dad died at the age of 38, when he was only 11, and has a ton of great advice how to make it through life and depressions...this man is wise and sharp.
I want to share some pictures of being able to be thankful for the blessing we have in life, and Gramps going for his first vette ride...

Thanks for stopping in

My sincere sympathy about losing your dad.
The photos you posted with your grandfather reminded me of my father ridin' in my vette. My dad was always a car guy, and he really dug riding in my vette. Hangin' out with him, sparked my love of cars. As time grew on he got older and kinda frail nearing the end, but never once complained about gettin' in or outta my vette! I really miss him.
You are right, life is a gift and we should all count our blessings no matter how large or how small. I have always counted my blessings. I've had a few that I will cherish eternally.
Again, so sorry about the loss of your father. From reading your post, I bet you've got great memories and stories to tell about him and his life.
Maybe next time we meet up, you'd like to share some stories about your dad and grandfather.Say hi to Donna and convey my sympathy to her too.

Those are great pictures of your 97 grandfather (and in the vette), and old people are very. very wise peeple, and my 80 year old dad has taught me that when old people speak you should listen and hold onto everything they have to say (because they are very wise and filled with life experienec)!

If you can share with us some of your Grandfather's wisdom on how to deal with the most difficult times that life has to offer that would be great!

As for Gramps, well he has always given me the strength not to be afraid of death, and has stated numerous times that it is a parts of life we all have to go through. When his wife, my Grandmother, of 68 years passed away a few years ago we though he would be gone shortly afterwards. Sure he is lonely but he did not let it get him down, and still wants to see additions in the family and live life. Now he has seen my first Grandson and shortly will see a new Grandson of his own from my brother next week.
He is planning his 100 B-day party and has told his doctor that he is invited and not to let him down…..
