Hey anybody, I repaced the plugs in my 95 LT1 with 118,000 miles on it with the ngk55ix plugs that alot of you seem to like. Now the car runs terrible, ran better before, now it popping and backfiring especially in first second and third gears, seems to run better once you get past 45 mph.. Is it because I messed with the appears to be original plug wires? Need some advice , please. Brent 317
You'll have better luck in the c4 technical section.
Did you gap the spark plugs properly?
Make sure all the spark plug wires are pushed on and fully seated.
Since your spark plug wires are original, I would check them for cracks in the insulation and condition. Either at night or in a dark garage, fire up the car and look under the hood to see if there are any arcs from the wires.
Don't blame the plugs... check your work.
plug gaps, old wires, caps pushed all the way down making sure the metal part snaps on the plugs, wires hooked up in the proper order... etc.
