Anyone in the Chicago area knowledgable about the R4 compressor used in the later C3s?
I have one for sure, probably two that need front seals. No rebuilds as they're off real low mile Vettes, just the seals as they're spraying a little too much oil.
Service manual shows too many special tools needed to justify purchasing them all and I'd hate to screw something up.
It's not a difficult project if you have the right tools like you mentioned. This was a very common repair back in the days when there were many on the road in all sorts of GM vehicles. You might try asking around your local repair shops to see if any still have the tools, perhaps they would consider a loan or rental.
Well, looks like I'll be doing it myself afterall.
Just snagged a like new seal repair tool kit on ebay for $32! All the tools to remove the clutch and remove and replace the seals
I also bought a KD trans shifter seal remover for $15. Don't need it right now, just came upon it looking for the AC stuff and couldn't pass up the price.
