I am new to the area (libertyville) and just drove with my wife to kentucky to pick up my first vett. 2005 everything stock. I know this is going to sound lame and I'm sure this has been talked about a million times but what should I do first? I'm a nervous "first timer".
Congrats - welcome to the forum and the world of 'Vettes.
First thing - get a good radar detector.
2nd thing - check out the lunch thread for the 24th and plan on coming out to meet other area forum members.
As for the car itself, nothing special is required. Whether you modify it, and how much, is up to you and depends on need, budget, and tolerance for the teething issues that typically accompany the more serious modifications.
The one mod I do to all of my cars is application of a clear bra to protect the paint on the nose, fenders/hood, rocker panels, and mirrors. I used Body-Skins in Elgin (he'll come out to you), and I'm sure others can recommend their favorite as well.
Welcome to the forum and the corvette ownership experience, Im sure you will be very happy with your purchase. As far as modding your car I would urge you to really think about your goals for the car and what you intend to do with it before doing anything in terms of mods. I have owned 4 corvettes one of which was severly modded..... it was fast as hell and alot of fun but required much more maintenance along with giving up quite a bit of drivability, when I got my current vette I did a couple of bolt ons and left it at that because I didnt want to be messing with the car as much.

Thanks to everyone!! I'll have to meet everyone soon. The last name - Ford - can't do anything about that. My neighbors were laughing when I pulled in the driveway. I think I'll just sit on this for awhile visit a few shops and decide in the fall.
