Just came back from Woodward and it has started for the big event next week. Miles of cars parked on both sides. Plenty of cruisers jaming the right two lanes. What a great night but the weather isnt looking good for tomorrow. A ton of Corvettes of all types. The police were having a good time too!
Wife and i went out at 10pm...we were flowing with traffic but i kept a 5 car distance from the car in front of me just because of the abrupt stopping and starting thats typically woodward on a friday night...plus it was getting dark. Suddenly i had a saturn outlook literally 5 feet off my rear turning his high beams on and off. I looked down, i was doing 35mph. So i continued on my way, flipped my rear view mirror, and just ignored it (the worst part is they could have passed me on the left but instead decided to stay glued to my tail for atleast another 3/4 mile). At the next light, said Outlook abruptly changes lanes and pulls up next to me. The passenger rolls her window down half way and yells out the window to me that the speed limit is 45 then before i could respond she rolled her window up. I look at the driver and hesshaking his head like im some kind of moron. The passenger wont look back my direction. Ive never seen anythign like it. Ive been coming down to woodward for the past 15 years and the week before dreamcruise is always wonderful...its not overly crowded and the traffic moves at a decent pace. But these people last night were terrible. I dont know who expects to get on woodward the week of dream cruise at 10pm and expects the traffic to be flowing at 45mph. These people were obviously ignorant as they tried continuously to go down wooward at 45mph and as soon as they would get to 45, they would hit the next pack of cars and back down to 35 it would go. Traveling from square lake to 696, i actually ended up in front of them as i went to 696 and they proceeded down woodward into ferndale. Kind of ruined my experience last night to say the least.

The Woodward Dream Cruise is still a "One Day" event, not a week long event, and that is on Saturday, August 21, 2010. Otherwise the speed limit is 45 mph, regardless of the fun/cruising we might want to do a week prior to the event.
Have a good time, and don't let a couple of people ruin it for you. See you Saturday!
I went up to Woodward tonight around 7:30pm and cruised until the cops started shutting things down around 9:30pm. Traffic on both sides creeped along around 5mph from 11 mile to 14 mile. That is the usual pace for that stretch of Woodward. It was a beautiful evening, saw lotsa Corvettes of every year and style. Every night this week the traffic will get heavier. The actual cruise day, Saturday is a joke in itself. Most of the rods and muscle cars are parked because they always overheat. The majority of the cruisers are the idiots who drive their family cars and screw up the traffic even worse. Oh well, I hear the weather is supposed to be great all week long, that's a good thing!
wish i could bring out my 77... i drove the cruise twice and came close to over heating so i just parked it.... plus its a waste of gas if you ask me....

Thats precisely it...its a speed limit...not a speed minimum. Besides...im in traffic everyday on 696 but i dont get all pissed off and try to do 70mph when everyone else is doing 35mph.

Thats it too...woodward dream cruise is a joke. Thats why the week before hand serves as the actual cruise. All the corvettes go out on wednesday...been this way for years. So yea...maybe saturday is the cruise day, but in reality, the cruise is all week long.

again....a good reason why weekends leading up to woodward are better than the actual cruise day.
General Motors is taking over the corner of 13 and Woodward where common folks in great cars mix with tons of people who come out to see the cars with their kids and strollers, et al. Corporate rules!!!! I can't imagine who they are advertising to!!! I think most people around here know about GM!!! Last night (Tuesday night) the cars and people were out in droves and it was a good time for all - GM should spend their money down South where 7 or 10 cars are forieign -good luck, GM!!
And yes, I know, that corner was rented to Chrysler in past years - didn't like that much either!!!
We did the food for charity Corvette Run tonight. I don't know, maybe it was me, but it sure didn't seem very organized. Got to the Radison late because of an accident on 696 eastbound, messed up traffic for over half an hour. Got there about 7:15pm and there was mass confusion in the parking lot. Half the cars were parked, the other half was attempting to leave to make the trek down Woodward to 11mile. We had a bag full of food donations and no one knew what to do with them. They started to clear out the Radison parking lot as quickly as possible. The trouble was that they ran us out into the already heavy Woodward traffic. They didn't shut down Woodward for the Vettes like they did in previous years.
So there were Corvettes everywhere, in all lanes, not knowing what the hell to do. We ended up driving south and heading for home. I did notice that they have not distributed the "porta johns" along Woodward as of yet. Whew! makes for a very uncomfortable ride when you are an old timer like me. It is hard to cross your legs while driving. I guess I will have to cut a hole in the floor pan like the old days when I used to cruise Woodward and drink with my buddies! We had a **** tube all hooked up for situations very similar. Oh well, there were some awesome looking Corvettes out tonight. I only saw one Atomic Orange like mine, but not a convertible. We will try again tomorrow, the weather has been fantastic!

I don't understand your rant. The food donations were to be delivered to the Food Pantry at 11 Mile and Woodward, as stated in Larry's details of this event. You mentioned you did this before, so why are you confused as to what to do with the food donations?
Also, the right two lanes were blocked for everyone to leave. Obviously its going to be hard to keep 400 cars together all the way down to 11 mile.
Sound to me you were just looking for something to complain about, since you were stuck in traffic. No need to rain on Larry's Parade. He did a great job organizing this event. Did you step up and offer Larry to help out?

When I arrived at 4:15 the lot was already more than half filled. Your problem was arriving way too late and not using the hotel's bathroom. Larry did a fantastic job in organizing this.

We arrived late too due to construction/traffic (6:15), got one of the very last spots in the lot, and had a great time. Looked at some cars, grabbed a bite to eat, dropped off our donation, and went cruising!
