I started at the Central Lab fresh out of college, then ended up in Materials Engineering in Bldg 5. Stayed in Materials my entire 33 years. It was a great job...became very knowledgeable in metals, plastics, adhesives, paints, plating, lubricants, rubber, etc. We wrote the Material specs, approved suppliers, solved field failures, etc.
Also, ran the Chassis Corrosion group and did surveys all over the rustbelt. Stood under a dripping chassis in jeans and T shirt one day, and would report to the Chief Engineer the next wearing suit and tie. Also, put in 10 years in Chassis Fastener Engineering where I learned a helluva lot about nuts and bolts, assembly, etc. Made lots of friends including many GM engineers over the years...we all exchanged information..there are no secrets in the auto industry (wink-wink). Oh, also took the buyout....kept my nose clean toward the end to make sure I got an offer...my mama didn't raise no dummy! haha!

Livonia Michigan here.....I think most of the forum folk are usually in the general discussion forum. There seems to be more personal discussions here in the Great Lakes forum.
