I have an 06 c6 coupe with 17,000 miles on it. I have a set of Goodyear F1 GS2 runflats on it that have maybe 8000 miles on them, and measure 8/32nds. The tires are wearing very well, square across the entire surface, minor very minor cupping on the inner front edge of the front tires. My problem is that at anything over 35 mph I am getting an annoying noise that gets louder and varies with speed. I took the car to the Goodyear dealer but they would not take the car for a ride. Is there any known problems with the rear wheel bearings?
I can't believe that these tires went from slightly noisy, to obnoxious in just a few months. The car is not my daily driver and I really don't want to spend $2k on tires right now if it's something else. I need to get this sorted quick as I am going to Funfest this week. Anyone local in Lake Zurich / Hawthorn Woods IL willing to let me swap tires for a few minutes to verify tires or bearings? I will even clean up your wheels for you while they are off!
I have a set of 08 factory reproductions with the stock tires on them. You are more than welcome to try them out. I'm not near you though. Give me a call if you're interested. The wheels are at my shop in Bridgeview. 708 774 9589
Thanks Rob,
I will keep that in mind as a back up, I was hoping someone in the area might want thier wheels cleaned up, and give me a chance to give a quick test. I appreciate your offer!
I am going to go and pull the hubs to see if they may not be the problem, I found a few available if I need them but stores close early on Sundays.....gotta get moving!
I took the car apart and checked the wheel bearings. I Found a bad bearing on the drivers rear. That was where I was hearing the noise. I would have swore it was a tire whine. All quiet now, new bearing installed. Both rear drive shaft nuts were also loose, as were several of the nuts holding the ball joints. Not sloppy just not what I would call torqued. Car is quiet again on the GY runflats! I just saved myself $1800! I installed longer studs on the rear hubs while I was in there for my 1/4 spacers I am running.
