Well, I made it home about 1: 30am this morning. The roads were clear and dry all the way home. There was a lot of snow on the sides of the road from Fort Wyane to home but it was good driving.
Yesterday after a gas stop I could hear a grinding noise coming from under the hood and I got a msg. servce electrical system soon. So I pulled over right away and I could smell something was hot. Well it didn't take long to narrow it down to the alt. So I told wifey to locate the nearest auto store. She came up with several about 11 miles away. So off we went. Once on the hi-way again I could see voltage dropping fast and smoke coming from the wheel wells ( not the good kind ). The first place we came to was an Advance auto. The guy there was very helpful but didn't have an alt. in stock but couldn't get it there till this morning. But he started calling around for me the first place he called was the local Chevy dealer. They told him they could have one first thing in the morning and it would be 546 bucks. If I got one from Advance it was 233 a lot better but still would have had to wait till this morning. Then he called Autozone just a 1/4 mile down the street they didn't have one in stock but if they ordered it right then it should be in before 5 last night. I told him to get it ordered I would be there shortly to take care of the paper work. So I thanked the guys at Advance for all their help and went down to Autozone. When I got there they had all the paper work ready and the order already in. The alt. cost was 176 there with a lifetime warranty, They let me barrow all the tools I needed to get the job done. This is at 1 in the afternoon so I got the old alt. off and the pulley would not turn by hand so the bearing froze right up on it. Long story short the new alt. got there about 6 last night so it was a very long day and night. But it could have been much worse if it went out in the middle of the night on the side of the hi-way somewhere.
I want to thank the guys at the Shepardsville Kentucky Advance auto and Autozone for all their help you guys
