What a Cutie, I know how upset I was when I lost my Spike #1 a few years ago. (((((hugs from Bandit and Spike #2)

That's hard to handle Ron. Wait a while, then find a local AKC breeder of good repute and buy another. I bred and showed Westies in the late 60s and through the 70s. They are an awesome breed to have around.

Ron,
I am so sorry to hear this news no doubt like losing a family member (that is some major grief to deal with) my condolenses.
I am a HUGE dog person and I know how much my 7.5 year old German Sheperd means to me who just recenlty started to struggle a bit with his hip displacia.
Keep your head up Ron, stay strong, and keep Faith in GOD that someday you will be reunited with your little (best) friend forever.

I'm so sorry for your loss. If this is your first experience with your pet passing away, this is going to be incredibly hard to work through. 17 years is a long time together.
The best thing for you to do is to adopt another Westie as soon as you can emotionally handle it. It will make a world of difference.

Man, sorry to hear that Ron... cute little guy too.... We love dogs as well.. our last one is a rescue she had been hit by a car and was in really bad shape, the owners didn't want to spend money on her, so we decided to take her on and not let her be put down, we got her taken care of though..

Ron, so sorry to hear of your loss. A pet is truly a family member and they are tough to lose.
Someone sent me this when I lost my last dog and it helped. Hope it does some good for you.
Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water, and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing: they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, legs carrying her faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together....

Ron,
I have told many people lately when my German Sheperd "Judge" goes some day, and that may be sooner than I have been expecting, the only way I think I will be able to deal with the grief and empty place (void) in my heart is to get a new puppy German Sheperd (right away).
It may work that way with you to bud, that the sooner you get your little guy replaced, that the less lonely and depressed that you will be? Not sure, everyone deals with grief of a pet differently.
Stay Strong man.

I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. I've been there and I know what you're going through. I still get tears in my eyes when I think about our first Schnauzer, Scruffy, but I also smile when I think about the many years of joy and happiness she brought our family. It would be nice if we could have everyone that we love and cherish in our lives forever, but we can't. He was fortunate to have an owner who took care of him and loved him so much. I truly believe that God has a special place in Heaven for animals. Hang in there.
