I want to take a trip in the Vette out to South Dakota, Black Hills, Mt. Rushmore and all that but I've never been out that way before. I was hoping maybe someone in here had some good info.
I Have never driven west of Chicago so is there any way that is better than the other? Should I go towards Milwaukee or towards Des Moines and Sioux City?
Are there even any cool sights or anything road trip worthy between Chicago and the Black Hills? What about when I get there?
I guess I should find out when they do the Biker stuff out there as well.
Thanks.
one of our families fav road trips. for you, maybe go over lake michigan and if your near spillsville, iowa check of the billy clock museum. then in sd. you have the corn husker palace, the badlands, wall drugs all on your way to mt rushmore. dont forget deadwood, black hills st pk, hot springs, and devils head. coming back, maybe a southerly trip thru sioux falls iowa, amana colonies, chicago...
now if only i could come up with some ideas for my families vacation travels...i'd be a hero...
Out there, Badlands, Deadwood, Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Iron Mountain Highway, Needles Highway, Custer State Park's Wildlife loop and then go a bit farther NW through Spearfish Canyon and then on out to Wyoming to Devil's Tower.
Lots of points of interest along the way, depends on how long you are allowing for travel and there.
Be sure you have up to date maps or GPS (if using a garmin or similar).
Hey Munch, some of us from the Grand Rapids area might want to take a trip up your way in the fall. Would like a color tour and winery tour up your way.
Thanks for the great suggestions. Looks like there is quite a bit of stuff to see out there and I didn't even consider taking a ferry across lake MI.
I thought we would take 9 or 10 days total so we should be able to see a decent amount of stuff. Needles Highway looks pretty sweet as well as the drive through the Black hills. I haven't really done much research yet so I guess I better get crackin'.

It's certainly a great area for touring around although I've only lived here 10 months so I'm still exploring. I'm from GR but was living in VA before we moved here. I've been to one of the wineries but I forget the name. It's the one everybody goes to, up on a hill and has some pretty spectacular views of the bay.
