I visited Bob Guilandi (The Major) today at Jacobs Chevy. He's kept a low profile on the forum lately due to the recent serious illness of his fiance (she's ok) and his promotion to Sales Manager (congrats) at Jacobs Chevrolet in Joliet a few weeks ago which has kept him busy.
Bob is still planning on putting together an event at either the Route 66 Dragway or the Autobahn Country Club sometime in Sept/Oct. If you have any comment or suggestions e-mail him at: majorvette@aol.com
I came to the Major's first event at Route66 and would definitely be up for another one. The timeframe is great as well.
As for the Autobahn Country Club, what is that? That isn't that roadcourse country club group that were trying to recruit members at the last route66 show is it?
Yes, that's the place, they should be finished sometime late summer or early fall, and they have shown some interest in having a Corvette day. Their site is http://www.autobahncountryclub.net
Don't know what each place would charge. I know Route 66 wants a lot of money to host an event, don't know about Autobahn. Initial membership cost may be high there, but no one is saying you have to be a member! They expressed an interest in possibly having a Corvette day, why not wait and see what the deal is before you start flaming! sheeesh
I'd be all over this Country Club if I lived in the Chicago area. I really don't thinkg $3000 for a year of unlimited racing is a bad deal.. Some of the lapping events around here are $400-500 for a day or two and that is sharing the track with a hundred other cars. Also, they have garage facilities to store your racecar at.. HOW COOL!!
The Founding Memberships are expensive, but they can be sold so there is a return on them. Not like this level would ever be an option for me anyway! :)
