Looks like I'm going to officially be an ex-Illinoisian by the end of the month
Company is moving me to Minneapolis. I've been traveling there weekly since March. House went under contract 2 weeks ago and they waived all of their contingencies last night. Closing is scheduled for June 29th. I haven't contributed a whole lot outside of the "Please help our cause" thread, but I always enjoyed keeping up with everything going on here in the Great Lakes forum. Looks like Minnesota falls in Great Lakes as well so I'm sure I'll still be checking in from time to time.
Hope Illinois can get its act together at some point. It isn't a bad place to live, but we decided about 3 years ago that it wasn't going to change in the near future and that we needed to get out. I hate to leave my friends and neighbors behind, but its just gotten to the point that I'm so disgusted with the state that I don't enjoy living here. It seems like I hear about some new unbelievable stupidity almost everyday. Sure seems like our politicians spend a lot of time accomplishing nothing. The mountain of debt that they've accumulated on our behalf should be criminal.
Anyway, enough of the rant. Best wishes to all of you and I hope the driving season is a long one this year for you. I guess it will be a little shorter where I'm headed.

Congrats!
Wife and I just bought land in Idaho. We have YEARS before we will be ready go, so, I'm jealous that you get to head out soon (totally agree about the conditions of our state).

We'll be house hunting next week. Looking in Waconia/St. Bonifacious, Lakeville/Burnsville and over in to Prescott, Wi for kicks. Are those areas okay? I know some of north Minneapolis is rough, but we are looking more in the suburbs. I may look at a few houses well north in areas like Zimmerman and Ham Lake as well. Any advice?

Out in the suburbs you should be fine, but I have been gone now since 2005 and a lot has changed since then. I still have a lake cabin about 60 miles west of the city that I go to for a month out of the year. To me I think the traffic has tripled scince 2005. There are other members here that live there which could give you better advice. I have always like the town of Stillwater, it's about twenty minutes east of mpls. ,near the Minnesota and Wisconsin border...good luck...

We bought a place in Jefferson less taxes then Des Plaines And a garage tall enough for the lift. One thing is for sure noise and traffic is light, vette is almost done.Good Luck hope it’s a little better.
