Gov. J.B. Pritzker says he hopes to lift Illinois’ indoor mask mandate before the upcoming holidays. Pritzker says he’s working with the Illinois Department of Public Health and are closely watching the COVID-19 metrics, including new cases and updated hospitalizations.
Illinois is one of six states in the country that currently has a mask mandate.
However, the governor says mitigations being relaxed will depend on how the numbers for the state look.
Last week, Pritzker said it remains too early to give an indication of when he might lift Illinois' indoor mask requirement, even as state COVID-19 metrics continue to dip.Still, Pritzker said he is optimistic.
"Generally speaking, things are better than they were a couple of weeks ago," Pritzker said. "So I'm hopeful."
The governor did not mention a potential timeline for more info on when Illinois' indoor mask mandate might be lifted.

"Update on Onsite Safety Standards
On August 26, 2021 the state of Illinois announced an update to their protocols on indoor mask usage, which now states that everyone over 2 years old must wear a face mask in all indoor public spaces, regardless of vaccination status. With this statewide mandate, we have updated our health & safety guidelines to keep participants at The ASSEMBLY Show safe while conducting their business at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, IL. We encourage exhibitors, speakers, media and attendees to bring their face masks with them to the event, but will have ample supply on site for those who arrive without."
"Currently the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center follows and practices the prevention strategies set forth by the CDC and adheres to the recommendations outlined in the U.S. EPA's emerging Pathogen Policy regarding cleaning disinfectants."
"ASSEMBLY will implement and enforce all protocols established by local and federal government agencies. As part of our commitment to support a safe experience, everyone in attendance, including attendees, exhibitors, vendors and staff, are expected to comply with the following health and safety requirements:
Face coverings – Per the recent mandate from the state of Illinois, ALL individuals, regardless of vaccination status will be required to wear a properly fitted face covering while inside at the convention center. Disposable masks will be available for those that need them in the registration area.
Increased sanitization and hygiene – ASSEMBLY and BNP Media works closely with the venue and contractors to implement sanitization standards. We ask that event participants use hand sanitizer when provided to protect yourself and others around you. It is the responsibility of everyone to maintain personal hygiene, including washing hands frequently for at least 20 seconds with soap and warm water.
Physical distancing – We ask that, to the best of your ability, you maintain a safe 6-foot distance from each other to ensure the well-being of others. Avoid handshakes and hugs when greeting others.
Healthy You - We ask that you come to the event symptom free of illness and stay away from the convention center if you feel sick, have a temperature or generally don't feel well.
Food & beverage - to ensure food safety and limited contact, we will be utilizing single-use plates, cups and wrapped flatware packets.
Session seating - meeting rooms where educational sessions will be taking place will have spaced out seating to allow for physical distancing between participants."
