What happened for me was the result of 1) Desire; 2) Means and cash flow; 3) The fact that I couldn't finance for 6 years on anything older than '00 (bought '01) and; 4) I don't have the loose cash laying around for a "Complete Down Payment" on a more experienced car which I would have preferred in terms of the financial transaction itself, market conditions considered.
