I'm excited.. I orderd my cam and gear set (3.75) today. I've been itching to do something to my vette. I decided I will be installing my LT4 Heads and Intake, along with a Comp Cam's extreeme energy cam. and also a 3.75 gear set from richmond. I think for spending less then a grand I should have a nice boost in performance. especially from the gears alone.
Now I'm trying to decide when I should do the work.. before winter hits or after.. right now I am leaning towards doing this as soon as I get the cam. Then in spring I will have some fun with it..
After this next project I will be running the following mods:
LT4 Top end including the 1.6 rockers, New Comp Cam, 2600 Stall, 3.75 gears, Gutted Cats(may or may not be installing them again), Hooker shorty headers, MSD 6AL and MSD wires, AND last but not least the K&N
All that is infront of my built trans with the trans go shift kit, kevlar band, and hi-energy frictions ect. I also will be installing another trans cooler in addition to the one I already added, because trans temp get nice and hot. Of course this is depending on ambient temp.
So I'm thinking after the custom programming, my vette should be even more enjoyable. I decided to put the 383 project on hold for a few years. So the my LT1 block will be sitting on the stand for a while.
Rick, It is a tough decision as to when to do the work..either way you may have to wait to try out. The weather can change in a hurry as you install and you may not be able to use the car or you can not do the mods now and torture yourself all winter and still have to do them in spring.
I think it's a no brainer...do em now!
Have fun!
Yea thats what I was thinking.. right now I am leaning to tearing into it as soon as the cam and gear comes but.. I may wait on doing the gear till spring.. so I can try her out with out the gear to see how much of a difference there is.. So as long as it doesn't get freezing out side soon I will start on it since I'll be doing it all at home..

Hey Rick, how did you come across LT4 heads and intake for less then a grand? Dealer discount? If so, we will have to talk when I get back from Florida next spring. I'm really leaning towards the LT4 conversion kit with the LT4 hot cam.

I ment the cam and gear set were less then a grand and the gaskets for the head and cam swap... the heads and intake are used from a forum member I helped with do an AFR head install... No the dealer discount kinda sucks the lt4 heads new are still between 7 and 800$ so still not cheap. the funny thing is the intake manifold lt4 vs lt1 the lt1 is more expensive I thinkit's like 600 or 800 or something..
I'm finding out I was reccomended a very agressive cam. and I also kinda forgot about the vavle springs.. so I'm not shure what I am going to do now.. I suppose I could return the cam and get a hot cam or a custom ground or something.. but part of me wants to try this 306 cam because I want to see how a nice lopy bad butt idle is.. so we'll see worst case I'm still going to throw the heads on.
after realizing the cam I purchased was a little to extreeme.. I will be sending it back tomarrow.. and most likely purchasing a lt4 hot cam. much cheaper route and I will not have to spend money on new valve springs and machineing the heads for the new valve springs.. it was adding up way beyong my budget.. especially since at some point I will build my 383 that is sitting on the stand as an empty block.. and at that point I will have the lt4 heads worked, so why waste money now. My goal was to achieve a power gain for now to hold me over until I can afford the 383 project. and do this upgrade on a budget. so anyhow I will keep everyone posted on where I'm at. hopefully this week I will have the 3.75 gears installed in the case and on the weekend I can swap the diffs (my 3.07 carrier with my 2.59 carrier)..
