Coming home from Galena Saturday a.m., got pulled over by ISP. Fortunately, the only problem was no front plate. I received a warning ticket for the plate. Officer told me that info would be in computer for 1 year. My question is, is this information available for ISP only, or would this information be available for local law enforcement?
Second question, what is the cost of the fine in Illinois for no front plate?
By the way, the ISP was totally professional & helpful. Since I was one of very few vehicles traveling east bound on Rte 20 at 8 a.m. Saturday morning I couldn't believe I was pulled over for the plate. :chevy
Jim is correct on the fine amount and that it is only an equipment violation which carries no points.
However I am not certain how ISP does thier written warning system. I believe that information is only contained within the ISP database. I have never seen it attached to any registration when I run them through the state computers. Each department is different as we don't issue written warnings. I still can however attach a note to your name, plate, DL number etc. that we call a "hot file" that will alert the others in my department that you have received a warning on a certain date and what it was for. No other police agency receives that file because it is on our local system. Does that make sense?
Yes it does make sense & thanks for your reply. I am weighing the cost and probability of getting a $75.00 ticket versus the peace of mind of running legal with a plate.
I have a front plate on my car and I also have the "no plate" filler from Chevy on it. I unscrewed the 2 screws that hold the cover in place, mounted my plate then took a few of those things the Tollway gives you to mount an I Pass? Kinda like big plastic velcro? I mounted those at the bottom of the cover and the corresponding plact on the plate. So the cover top slides up into it's slot and I push the cove bottom onto the plastic holders at the bottom. To remove it I simply reach under the bottom and gently pull towards me.
I haven't been stopped yet but it is an instant cure for no front plate AND if lazer looks for a front plate I now have a reflection (not that I want to get caught)
