I'm sure this may be the wrong place for this post but the search function is virtually useless as it functions now. I know it was taken down for some time to repair but the fix didn't work. It finds some stuff, misses more than it finds, seems pretty random at what it comes back with. I've tested it in numerous conditions and I'm very confident that I'm right about this. If the search function worked properly it would probably eliminate a lot of nearly duplicate threads.
I regularly post in the Help forum. Please don't think posting there is bitching or whining. Often times, tech's don't know there's a problem, and may never find out until a user (us) let's them know. Letting them know gives them the opportunity to provide better customer service.
If this search function is working or was working yesterday, then I obviously have different expectation from a search. If you search for a text 'string' that you absolutely know is in a particular forum or in one of the forums (assuming you are using the broader search function) and it does not find that string, then I would say the search has failed. This is what happens repeatedly with this search. I'm definitely NOT bitching because I was a computer programmer for many years and know the difficulty of testing for 'bugs' and fixing them. Unless you have the time to set up really good test cases and then be very rigorous and unbiased in your testing, it is very difficult to even recognize that their are bugs in your programs. It is the usual case that the larger base user community finds bugs, then presents them back to the programmer to fix. I am pretty darn certain as a user that this function is not working in the manner that I would expect it to. Perhaps my expectation and that of the original 'customer' base differ.
