Default Posting pictures-HELP

Well, I just got a 4.0 mp digital camera and have taken some pics of my car. I have the Kodak Easyshare with it. After fooling with this for several hours now, I have some questions. First I will let you know I am greener than grass doing this. I have got some pics on Photobucket. Most of them were 300 to 500kb, which are resized by them to 250. Is it best to resize before you send to P.B. I clicked on some of the thumbnails and the pic covered my entire screen. I know this won't work when posting pics. I read on the search where someone was getting small pics on their post's and they were told to enlarge the thumbnail and then use the url. When I enlarge the thumbnail the box's are not below the enlarged pic. Is there a certain size of pixels or inch size that are good for posting. All this is making me . I did at least get one in my Avatar. Could someone explain this to me in a very simple way. I know I'll get my pics on here one of these days.

This is very simple. You are confusing yourself.

Try to follow along:
1. Download Irfanview from www.irfanview.com
2. Save all full size pics to a folder for safe keeping and later use
3. copy the ones you want to resize to your desktop and open them with irfanview.
4. once open, click the 'image' menu bar and select 'resize resample'
5. select either 800 X 600 or 640 X 480
6. File> Save
7. Save it as a .jpg with about 75% compression and save over the one on your desktop (not the original which should be in a different folder anyway)
8. upload it to your favorite host.
9. post it

Any questions?

(PS this software that is free, will also let you crop your photos easily by selecting dragging a box with your mouse and selecting >edit>crop selection...then save it)
