Default Bar threads...

Just wondering what the actual rules are, Jewel brought up the fact that I technically shouldn't be in them (age), but I can't seem to find any rules set out anywhere.

Well, that's a new one on me....I'll pass this off to Mod Corner for a "minimum age requirement" review...

That's what I thought too...it was a little disconcerting being told to leave by one member who apparently thought I shouldn't be there.

It's not like I'm 15 or anything.

Well, you LOOK like you could be

So far no hard and fast "rule" has been found. The only response at this time is that it has been "tradition". I asked how we were going to check ID's at the OT Bar Thread Door...

That's what I figured. It's not like I'm not almost 21 anyway.

Thanks!

I spend some time in the NE section and the bars are closed after 1,000 posts, is that a rule that is just in place there?

The same thing with having more then one "bar thread" going on?

For example:

Yesterday there were two bars opened at about the same time and the Mods combined the two of them together.

Only 1 bar going at a time. Off topic has had one for many years. NE section has one they started just a few months ago as an experiment.

All bars close around 1000 posts. It's on the honor system if a moderator isn't around to close it.

Sometimes the new bar is opened from discussions inside the current thread as it winds down. Sometimes it just first come first served.

It there are two open at the same time, they are either merged or the second one locked, depending on the moderator.

what's the reason for this? I've noticed it for years, but didn't know why. do you just figure it gets too big for people to read through?

I am not sure why the magic number is 1k. I might have had something to do with limitations on previous software or it might have been a number that was decided on. It has been going on for so long that it is now tradition.

My own experience on other forums is that limiting bar threads to a certain amount of posts or pages gives different members the opportunity to open bar threads. Keeping up with a 10000 post thread is miserable.

There is no minimum age. This is a "fake," bar, and no alcohol is being consumed, therefore, there's no age that's applicable.
