Default Dial-Up Death

For every photog wannabe with a digital camera: If your camera is rated at two or more megapixels, you have the ability to select different resolution images through the camera's menu (if you don't know how, then RTFB). Thus, if you want to post pics on the web or send them via email, select the lowest resolution. If you want to just look at them on a monitor or print, select the highest resolution. A good size for web/email is a image size max of 640X800 with 64K colors and 72dpi because the pic turns out looking okay and does not eat up bandwidth. Those who have to use dial-up versus broadband will certainly appreciate it.

Some lower end multi-pixel cameras may not give you that much control over the image but a good low-cost graphics program like Paint Shop Pro will let you do such conversions plus a bunch of other neat tricks and effects. It's easy to use and you can get a new version for under $100 and probably older versions on ebay or such for much less.

PhotoShop ($600 plus) is very expensive and hard to use so, if you are not a fulltime graphics professional, do not waste your money buying PhotoShop (unless, of course, you are afflicted with the mine-is-bigger-than-yours syndrome). You will be much happier using the money difference for mods.

Oh yeah, I used to be a professional photog and graphics artist so I know whereof I speak. However, if you don't like my advice, then feel free to ignore it. Always remember, "Opinions are like a$$holes. Everybody has one and it's only important to it's owner" (my sig on another forum).

Then obviously you have never noticed the number of threads in C5 General that have the words "Dial-Up Death" in their titles.
