Default Why does a thread get closed?

I searched FAQ and other places, but was unable to find why a thread may be closed. I was reading one and went to post but found it had been closed. Couldn't see anything controversial, etc., or understand a reason why it may have been closed.

Hadn't seen this before and just wondered.

When a thread stops being profitable, it is closed. You can't expect the mods to let an unprofitable thread continue. The Forum would be bankrupt!

Could be related to "street racing", could be a rant about a vendor or product, but once the vendor steps forward the thread gets closed. Sometimes the rancor get's out of control like many of the A6 vs M6 or Z51 vs XXX etc. After a period of time it no longer serves any real purpose except to keep the flames alive.

There are many more reasons and the mod that closes the thread usually says so when he closes it.

They also get closed for non-work-safe links on a website for which a link is posted. Generally, if you know who locked it and they don't say why it was locked, it's usually permissable to PM the mod and ask them. It's not permissable to ask in another thread, aka as "calling out" the mod.

Those are the reasons I thought would get a thread closed. It was the one discussing the owner's manual that comes with our cars, and I saw nothing which I could imagine would upset anyone.

Didn't last long, either..........and no reason given........interesting

Remember that the reasons for closing a thread are somewhat subjective and are the judgement of the mod...moderating is their job and I respect them for it. If we all agreed with the mods all the time, then we wouldn't ever need the mods. Note that your thread, which is not about any C6 topic, was only moved (I knew it was coming), not closed.

Only guessing here, but I expect the mod probably thought the bashing was going to get worse in that particular thread, and the direction of the thread really had no value except to criticize posters or noobies who only commit the sin of not being experts on the owner's manual.

Typically, the moderator closing a thread will mention why before closing it. Otherwise they make think closing it was obvious.

If you will give me the link, I will see if I can tell why or contact the moderator that closed it.

Take a look at the last few posts right before your thread was closed.
IMO, looks like the Mod thought these responses were going downhill quickly. It wasn't your question, but the replies that to me, started to not look so good.

I'm not a Mod, so this is just my guess.
