Default Moderators, a little help please

How do you get this (deleted expletive) search engine to search for more than one word at a time.
For example: I want to search for "force motor current". I put those words in the advance search filter and it pulls up every thread with the word "force" in it, and every thread with the word "motor" in it, and every thread with the word "current" in it.
I have tried using "force&motor&current" and "force+motor+current". Neither work. Please inform me of the secret key to do a meaningful search and dispell my belief that this search engine is a POS.

Thank you.

I share your frustration. I too have all but given up on using the search engine on this Forum. It leaves much to be desired. And I have been using Internet search engines for over 12 years. Have ALWAYS been able to find what I was looking for.

If the search engine is working properly, then the boolean phrase that you're entering should work. Computers are my thing so this is the way it SHOULD work.

If you type in force motor current, you should get back every page with the words force, every page with the word motor, and every page with the word current. However, doing a search for force+motor+current should bring back only the pages with those 3 word on them in no specific order. Using quotations as in "force motor current" should bring back ONLY the pages with that exact phrase. Furthermore, + is the same as &, and leaving a space between each word is also the same as + or &.

Lastly, doing a search for motor -engine should bring back every page with the word motor, as long as that page does not contain the word engine. This is the way every search engine on the Internet works, however, I have found mixed results with the forum's search engine. This can be attributed to the template that the powers that be have chosen to run, an is what we use to interact with each other.

What I suggest you do is learn the Ctrl+F function which will allow you to search with a page and assist you in figuring out whether or not a document that you're looking at is relevant to your search. I find it to be a little tedious doing searches on this forum but if you get creative enough or ask after you've exhausted the search engine, someone will come through for you.

Thank you for the response. I tried the using the "forced motor current" and it returned something to the effect of "Sorry nothing found" in the Advanced Search page. In the Key word(s) field on that page it had placed the phrase "forced*motor*current". Then I tried just using the forced*motor*current format. It found a 36 posts and none of them had that phrase highlighted in red, or had anything to do with force motor current. I too have sucessfully used many search engines in the past and am familiar with the CTL-F find function. I quess I will just ask the question I have on the forum and try to politely ignore the "Did you do a search?" questions. Thanks again.

How about the possibility that the phrase "forced motor current" is simply not in any of the Corvetteforum's databases?

That is a possbility. I just thought that with "force motor current" being one of the parameters that can be adjusted in the 4L60E A4 transmission that there was a likely probability someone in the Scan and Tune section would have mentioned it.

I can't begin to tell you of the countless times I have used the search with a "no match result"
Then when I checked the archive button also, TONS of things come up!

Good luck

Believe it or not, the archives did net a few results. Must be very few people here that ever mention it.

It's a checkbox in the section "Search In" at the bottom of the search page. Options are Current, Archive or you can check both to search in all locations.
