New threads since a certain date
What do I need to do to be able to only see threads that have been created since a specific date? For example, if I haven't been on for 3 days, I'd only like to see new threads that have been created in the last 3 days. As I read through them, I subscribe to the ones that I want to continue reading.

Take a look at the search tutorial in the sticky threads above. You can refine the search criteria to include only threads from your last visit. You can find it from the advanced search feature. This tutorial will get you to the advanced search page and then on the left you can decide to only show threads from the last visit, the last day, the last week...etc. I don't know of any way to only include threads from a certain date range.

Thanks for the info. However, it appears that Advanced Search only allows searching for specific key words -- which is great if you're doing research on a specific subject.
I'm looking for a way to filter all threads based on "last visit", so I don't have to keep looking thru threads that I've already decided aren't of interest. Can Advanced Search do this? If not, is there some other mechanism within the forum that allows people to save time looking thru threads they've already looked at?

Under UserCP, Edit Options, Default Thread Age Cut Off. You can show all threads, threads from the last day, threads from the last 2 days, and then threads from the last week, and so on. There is no pick for the last 3 days.
