Why Can't I post Attachments ?

All others have to host their attachments somewhere else on the web and put the address in their post.
There's a sticky on the title page of this forum that tells you how to do that.
Used to be that only moderators could do that, but they gave supporting members power to do that when they came up with the idea of supporting memberships.

You can host your attachments on several different websites, free. Then you can post the URL here, free.
How is that keeping you from helping someone?

Sometimes smiley faces just don't cut it.lol !.I write this post with the utmost respect to all who created this web site and maintain it.

So for everyone to be able to attach would require more storage eventually. So supporting members who pay a fee can attach photos and regular users can post links.
Hopes this helps.

Here's an example of a picture hosted in the gallery of JimTN, who posted earlier in this thread:

It's larger than is appropriate to post in a thread because it causes horizontal scrolling issues, but this shows it works with pictures hosted on the Forum.
Another option added last week for Forum members to host and display pictures on the Forum is through the "Garage". It doesn't look like anybody in this thread has put photos of their Corvettes in a "garage" yet, but here's one I found near the top of the list from the garage of sfsvettes:

I've never bothered to set up a Forum gallery of pictures, nor have I put any pictures in the new Garage being offered by the Forum. I have personal photo hosting accounts at two other sites: a free account at photobucket.com and a paid account at flickr.com.
I have permission through the software to attach photos with a post at Corvetteforum, but rarely use that technique to illustrate my posts. Instead, I use my photobucket or flickr accounts to include photos with my posts at Corvetteforum because I think it gives a better display for other Forum users.
Here's an example of a picture I posted in another section the other day:

And here's a link to the posting:

I'll attach the same picture to this post, so you can see the difference in embedding a picture with the text in post and attaching it with your post.
I think embedding is better because it allows you to put the picture in immediate context with your text, rather than being separated from the text and placed at the bottom of the post, where it has to be clicked on to see it.
I can appreciate that it might be intimidating to a computer novice to figure out how to display a picture in a post. I saw that because my reputation here at the Forum is pretty well known as someone who is clueless about computers and how the Forum software works.
I always have to track down someone who knows what they are talking about to address technical issues here. :o What I've learned, after a few trial and error mistakes, however, is that embedding a picture in a post isn't really that hard.
You just copy the unique URL (location) of the picture and tell the software that it is a picture you are wanting to display. You do that by preceding the URL with the code [ img ] (but leaving out the spaces. Then you end the URL with the code [ / img ], again, leaving out the spaces.
I find that if I go to a little trouble to embed a picture with text in a post, rather than attaching it, it usually ends up making the post easier to use and understand than if I attached the file.
So, I think the crux of the matter boils down to convenience. It's more convenient to attach a picture to a post than to embed it.
When Troy Roberts set up the supporting member program several years ago, at the request of some loyal site users who wanted to be able to make a contribution toward the operation of the Forum, he looked for ways to recognize and reward the supporting members.
One of the ways recommended was to allow supporting members the convenience of attaching pictures with their posts. So, I don't think it would be fair at this juncture to blur the distinction between supporting members and other members by granting them the same picture-attaching permissions.
Try learning the technque for embedding pictures in a post. You don't even have to go to another free site to host your pictures now that you have two options of doing so here at Corvetteforum. I think you'll find that you and others will enjoy your illustrated posts much more.
