When you click on links to various merchants on this site and make a purchase, this can result in this site earning a commission. Affiliate programs and affiliations include, but are not limited to, the eBay Partner Network.
You cannot embed photos directly in your post, since you're not a paying supporting member. However, you can post the link to that photo in your post.
Right click on the photo you want to use and copy the URL of the photo. Then, in your ad (post), paste that URL with a [IMG] tag in front of the URL and a [/IMG] tag at the end of the URL.
I think Jim meant to say that you cannot post Attachments (feature often found on message forums) as you are not a paying Supporter of CorvetteForum. However, you can still embed photos in your post by doing the following:
Copy/paste each of the following lines and paste them into your post.
I went into your photo album, selected each picture, and copy/pasted the Image location/URL address of the photo. I then put each line in between the [img][/img] tags that tell the software to embed the image. This is how I accomplished the above.
If you can't attach a file (picture) to your post, then someone needs to change the directions in the FAQ section. It says:
"To attach a file to your post, you need to be using the main 'New Post' or 'New Thread' page and not 'Quick Reply'. To use the main 'New Post' page, click the 'Post Reply' button in the relevant thread.
On this page, below the message box, you will find a button labelled 'Manage Attachments'. Clicking this button will open a new window for uploading attachments."
Unfortunately, there isn't a button called Manage Attachments. I suggest that a moderator either change the instructions or fix the sight to comply with the instructions. I wasted a lot of time on this last evening.
It should be noted that FAQ comes standard with the vBulletin software and is a basic set of instructions that is not customized to the specific environment. It was not written by this website.
While you are correct that it probably could be more customized to the specific environment, I'm just stating it likely was not because it's a general, how-to, set of instructions that would be considered generic to the software. There is going to be added/removed/changed features that the FAQ doesn't reflect as someone would have to review and manually change.

Hmmm. Why have a set of instructions on this site for posting pictures that is NOT correct? I'm also a member of a Honda Ridgeline Forum, which seems almost identical to this site, and the picture posting process is very simple. Why make it this hard?
The FAQ that you describe comes with the software, as-is, on all vBulletin sites. The FAQ can be manually edited, added, subtracted, etc., by the Administration and Owners of each website the software is installed. I'm sure the Administration on Corvette Forum did not intended to deceive members, they just probably did not edit the FAQ to match the environment.
vBulletin is highly customizable. It is the Administrators and Owners of the site that made the Attachment feature a feature only to those who pay to support Corvette Forum. There are so many customizable settings on vBulletin, in addition to plugins. I'm not so sure Corvette Forum set out to make the process complicated, but instead, wanted certain features reserved to those who pay and support the Corvette Forum. At one time, the site was privately owned. Cost of bandwidth and servers is not cheap for a site this size and active.
It's my best guess that the Administration did not consider, or did not believe the FAQ was really used much, editing the FAQ to comply specifically with the environment and settings here on Corvette Forum.

Don't kid yourself. The owners of this site are well financed by everyone that visits and clicks on a sponsor, not just "paying" members. Frankly, they've made no attempt to get rid of the non-applicable portions of the Q&A. This site is not user friendly. I frequent other auto forums that are completely free and much more user friendly. Check out this privately owned site if you don't believe me. http://www.ridgelineownersclub.com/

When I previously noted that a site of this size and active is expensive to operate and maintain, I was largely referencing to when this site was privately owned by single people as that was that period of time when the Supporting Member features were added. This was a few years ago. A site such as this is still expensive to operate and maintain as the site runs on multiple hardware (servers) and has other associated expenses.
I visited the link you submitted and noted they run their forums on the vBulletin software, which is not only the same forum software Corvette Forum runs on, but the parent company that owns Corvette Forums also owns the vBulletin software. Many websites select this software to run their forums (such as your referenced one) on.
If you have specific suggestions on how to make the site more user friendly, I'm sure the Administration and owners are willing to listen.
If the FAQ is updated to reflect the Attachment access (only available to Supporting Members), that probably won't address your user friendly comments.
As this is not my area, I will differ to the Administration and owners.
Good luck!

eburcher: Sorry you've had problems acclimating to the site.
I believe the history on the ability to "attach" photos to a post dates back to the founder of the site wanting to give supporting members additional privileges for their support.
It's possible for anybody to display photos in a thread, as per member J T's suggestion and you'll note there are several sticky threads atop the directory in this section that tell how to do it.
That's my preferred method of displaying pictures, rather than attaching them because I think they display so much better. YMMV.
Thanks for pointing out the problem in the FAQ. I'll take a look and get it adjusted so there is no ambiquity.
