I read the sticky tutorial above and could not find how to search the archive. I was looking for a post back in 2005, but cant get any search results no matter how I configure the advanced search?

Formerly, when you used the search function, there was an option to also search the archives, but I've not seen that option for the last couple of years. I'm guessing that all the past threads are searched if the right options are used. I have seen threads from 2005 turn up in a search.

The old content should still be searchable. However, given the amount of content CF has, the limit of search results returned will likely be reached before any old content is shown - if searching sorting by last date. The search is configured that only the top 250 results are returned.
In this case, you will need to be more specific if you're searching for specific posts. In the Advanced Search section, you can select "Find Posts from" and select A Year Ago and select "and older" so that gets you started in 1 year+ older content. Then, you need to be more specific with the search terms. If you recall words in the thread title, that is often an easy way to narrow down the results. Also make sure to select the correct forum where the content should be in. All this will help narrow down the results to help make what you're looking for in the returned 250 results that the search is limited to.
