Default Trouble reading certain threads,,,,word-wrap problems

Very rarely I run into a problem where upon view a thread, I must scroll far to the right to fully read the text. It is as if so called word-wrap is not functioning properly.

Here is a link to the most recent thread where I experience this problem. Could be related to the macintrash computer that I am running on. My son's wife works for Apple and she gave me a Macbook Pro for my birthday, so I am dragged kicking and screaming off to the dark side. Oh yes, I am also running Windows 7 under Parallels on this machine too, so withdraw symptoms are not killing me yet.

However likely not the Mac as all other threads are ok today.

Any suggestions from anyone?

Also another issue:

How do I go back to the index of posted threads, when I have posted to "subscribe" to a thread,,,or posted a reply. Currently what I must do is hit "back" on my browser 4 times to return to the point that I wish. I know that I can hit "forums" and do so in less steps, but then not returned to correct point in the index of threads.

Is there a shortcut that I have not figured out?

Thank you

The issue you describe with word-wrap, in your linked example, is due to a poster in the thread embedding large pictures into their post. You may also have a low resolution and/or small screen size and thus makes the issue bigger.

There is something you can do for the above issue. In the UserCP, you can control the threshold that is used for resizing embedded pictures to minimize or prevent this issue.

The forum does have an option to resize displayed images with several options. To adjust the settings:

1) Go to UserCP: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/usercp.php
2) Click on Edit Options: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/prof...do=editoptions
3) Scroll down to Image Resize section.
4) Select Default
5) Click on Save Changes button

The above will have posted images resized if they're over 850px in width. If you're using a small monitor and/or low resolution, you may need to do another adjustment.

If so, repeat steps 1-3. Then, in the blank field under "Image width section", place a value of something like 600. Then click on Save changes button.

As far as returning back to the index page and back to the section of that page, about the only way that is possible is via the back button (history), otherwise, as you indicated, you will just be dropped to the top of the index page and not the specific section you was at on the index page.

Default Problem remains

Thank you for your excellent and timely response.

However problem remains. I did go to USER CP, scrolled to images, selected "DEFAULT",,,,however this choice was already selected on mine. There actually is not an option for "default",,,it really says "default" (enlarge in another window).

I then entered the recommended number of 600 in the width option to try this.

In all cases, I did enter "save changes" as directed.

However when again opening the thread in question, the photos are supersized and text is not word wrapped.

Any thoughts on perhaps I may not doing something correct. Perhaps I need to reboot or something.

Thank you

Sorry, that's actually an Attachment and not a hot-linked photo that I initally thought. I'll have to do some checking into this.

The linked thread you posted was created before there was some changes to the Attachment system. You should not see this issue again with the attachment feature with posts created after (roughly) 7/27/10. Unfortunately you will see this issue on older threads (pre-7/27/10) that uploaded attachments larger than 800 pixels wide.

However, the instructions I provided above are for the threads you may encounter that have hot-linked photos from external sites. So you may want to keep that in mind that if you see new threads with the same issue, the post probably has a hot-linked pictures (instead of the attachment feature) and you'll need to adjust your settings as described above. Basically, as you may know, there are two ways to post pictures on CF: attachments or hot-linking. The instructions I provided above are for the hot-linking while the attachments cannot be manually changed and should not be an issue for posts newer than roughly 7/27/10.

Thank you for your research. Always happy to learn something new. I first joined the computer industry in 1968 as a Systems Programmer on IBM 360 mainframes. Every year since then, I have found that I know less and less about more and more. Happy that it was not my new Macbook.

Roger
