Default Threads Take Too Long to Load

Our computer is running Windows 7, Internet Explorer. Comcast cable connection.

Any other website we use, new pages load up instantly. Like, the page starts to appear within a second and the whole page is there within 2-3 seconds.

On Corvette Forum, it's different. About 30% of the time, clicking on a thread will bring up the thread almost as fast as other websites. But about 70% of the time, I just get the little "spinner" that shows it's trying to download, but nothing will appear for 20-30 seconds. Or longer. More interesting, if I click the small X to stop the process and then re-click on the thread, it always appears within 2-3 seconds.

We've tried, literally, hundreds of other websites; none of them have this delay problem except CF.

Suggestions?

Many have reported slow load times with IE. Try Firefox with AdBlockerPlus. Never takes more than 5-6 seconds for the page of titles to load and 3-4 seconds for a thread to load.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm hoping to stay with IE, since all other websites load just fine.

We'll see...

The tech team is aware of the issue, but it's not an easy fix since it involves social media integration changes the tech team has no control over.

Meanwhile, I've switched to FireFox, which operates significantly faster on the Forum. I like it a lot better and will probably never switch back. Give it a try and see what you think. If you don't like it, you can always delete it from your computer.

Thanks!

Do you know if everyone with IE is having this problem? If not, can anyone figure out why some have the problem on IE and some don't?

Most of the ones I've seen post here were having problems with IE9.

This computer was purchased in July 2011, it is using IE9.

Also, I wonder if previous versions were actually better with CF or just that there are fewer complaints with the previous versions because fewer people are using them now.

Any ideas?

Here's a response about IE8 and IE9 from HELP forum guru JT in another thread.

If I recall correctly, it's IE9 that has been reported as having performance issues with the site. Jim (Savewave) is also one that seen issues with IE9. I have IE8 and several tests, without any customized software blocking anything, and without blocking anything in hosts, IE8 was not much slower than Firefox.

One thing that could also play a role, is that if there's any issue or delay with you connecting to any of the external hosts for any of the scripts or ads, that will increase the delay. I suspect this is part of the delay you're seeing when you see the top section of the screen but the rest of the content is not yet rendered.

But as described above by pewter99, IE does tend to render webpages slower than Firefox. This is especially true when the site is "complex" by having nested tables. Firefox tends to render as it's loaded, while IE tends to wait to render until loaded.
and here's a link to the whole thread if it will help any.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/help...s-sloowww.html

Only other thing I know that might help would be to wait for a response from JT or from one if the Internet Brands' Techs.

Any way to get IE8 into my computer?
Any disadvantages to doing so? There must be a reason(s) why IE9 came out.

I have IE9 on my desktop. That's why I gave it up and switched to FireFox.

I bought a new laptop this past May, IIRC, June at the latest, and I now have IE9. Even before this, with my old unit, I've been having "slow load issues" on both CF and LS1 Tech for about 6 months or so...

I've seen info that some other sites have problems with Firefox, so I'll just stay with IE9 and (note to advertisers) spend less time on CF. It's usable, just not nearly as convenient as before.

I hope they are working on a fix for IE9. I have tried firefox and just do not like it. This site so far is the only one I've EVER had an issue with since the upgrade. I'm guessing many people who are new to the site won't stick around as long as the slowness continues.

While on the subject of integration, Is there anyway to disable the facebook stuff? I and I'm sure many others have facebook blocked at work and if they see this site trying to tap into it, it will more than likely be blocked in the future also. I used to take a peek at lunch, but since the facebook integration, have avoided it for the most part.

Please fix the IE9 issue or disable what is slowing it down until there is a fix for it

Keep in mind, as I noted, the CF loading issues began before many of us wound up with IE9. The common ground I see, is that CF and LS1 Tech are sites with common ownership.

Well, people will start voting with their feet (mouse), hopefully the site owners/techies will be able to fix this soon.

True......I haven't visited LS1 Tech for a while, primarily because if I have a few minutes, I might be able to look at a thread or two at most.

We had identified that there was some issues with the Facebook like buttons with IE that would result in webpages being slow to render. IE would hold up rendering the webpage until that content was loaded. After some attempts to resolve the issue with revisions that didn't appear to address the issue satisfactory, the Facebook like buttons have been disabled for IE. Those who were reporting issues with IE being slow have reported an improvement once the Facebook like buttons had been disabled.

As far as the issues with IE9, it does not appear specific to CF or Internet Brands' sites. This is highlighted by Microsoft having some articles (which I've previously linked) that addressed performance issues with IE9 and certain sites. IE has frequently been slower than Firefox for any typical site for some time. That, and with the ease of plugins for Firefox probably explains why IE usage continues to drop!

FWIW, my situation seems to have improved over the last couple of weeks. The slow-load problem seems to happen only about 30% of the time now, instead of 70%. That's not a precise number, just a general impression.

I've discovered that if a thread is slow to load, clicking on the thread again (without clicking on the small x to stop the download) seems to work almost as well as using the x and then re-clicking. Go figure.
