Default Painfully slow lately.

Whats going on w/ the forum these days?

I do a recent topics, and choose "last week" it takes 20-30 seconds every time.

Here is a copy past of one I just did:

Some of us post enough that when we do last week, it never returns. Seriously.

However, the last 2 days took 0.10 seconds to find 23 posts.

Really strange.

For as long as I can remember, the Recent Topics button has been painfully slow.

I would consider 20 seconds to be lightning-fast. Really. Even just a couple of posts from previous day typically takes 20-30 seconds, two or three days worth can take a couple of minutes.

Really strange. I'm still seeing times like this for the search for the last 2 days:

Had same problem. I have Roadrunner and did everything recommended to speed computer up. I have Windows 7 which even allows Readyboost (more memory) which I installed. My last attempt was replacing my wireless router. I had a G router (old tech) and just purchased a NetGear router. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! Extremely fast. Maybe this may help you if you have similar software and hardware.

It's not your computers guys... I've noticed the same problem.

It's this website. It is painfully slow and is easily the slowest forum I've encountered in a long time.
Add in the fact that I get logged-off automatically if I'm not busy scrolling through threads... and it makes my decision not to contribute as a paying member really easy.

I literally have to re-log-in at least 10-15 times a day if I'm on other sites and not actively reading something here. It drives me insane and it's exclusive to this website.

I can only suppose this is done as a crutch to speed up bandwidth instead of actually buying more bandwidth to handle the traffic.

The issue with having to log back in is a browser issue, specifically a cookie issue. While it's true that the server plays a role with cookies, if it's on the server side, almost every member would be impacted at the same time and there would be a long list of members reporting the issue with cookies and not being remembered. This actually did happen quite a while back and there was a lot of replies from members reporting that issue, which was a result of a changing of settings.

I understand you say that log out issue only occurs on CorvetteForum. That's because of how cookies work. Each site, generally, has several cookies with your browser. Sometimes the cookie for a specific website will become corrupt and require manually deleting them and revisiting the site. Thus why this issue generally only occurs at one site at a time.

You will need to manually delete all CorvetteForum cookies in your browser. Logging out is not the same and will not work in place of deleting all CorvetteForum cookies.

Once you've deleted all CorvetteForum cookies, then revisit the site and log back in. Make sure to use the Remember Me option when logging in with your username and password. If you don't use the Remember Me option when you log in, you will only have a session and not a cookie. If you get a session, then closing the browser will log you out and require you to log in. This option is there for members who may use a public computer, and many other websites use a similar feature.

If the above doesn't work, then your browser is either deleting the cookies when it is closed, you're deleting the CorvetteForum cookies, or you have a 3rd party software that is causing the cookie issue.

Use Firefox and AdBlockerPlus. The forum title page loads for me in 5-7 seconds after I double click on a desktop shortcut. Time of day may make 2-3 seconds difference in load time.

Already using that stuff.

I guess the site just gets bogged down with heavy traffic.

It's probably more complicated than that. I've been experiencing slow load times and time-outs for several weeks. Other moderators have been telling me they have had no issues.

At the same time, I've been experiencing connectivity issues with my VoIP phone service, so the problem most likely lies with my ISP, Comcast.

I've reported the problem to them and they've sent out a technician twice, most recently replacing my modem. That seemed to help, but J T has told me that "Comcast is losing packets" in my area.

I mentioned that to the service technician and he acknowledged that others have complained of the same thing and that changing out my modem wouldn't be an end-all resolution to my issues.

Today, I've got good load speed and one of the moderators is saying he's experiencing very slow loading.

I couldn't navigate the C1/C2 Forum yesterday, and the same thing is happening today. My logon from "favorites" goes fine (although slower than usual), but when I click on a thread, it tries to load, and after about 20 seconds the progress bar at the bottom is about 1/3 of the way across, then it fails and I get the "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" screen. If I click on the back button I go back to the thread, and clicking on it gets the same result. If I hit "refresh" (F5), the thread displays again, and if I click on it again, the thread displays immediately as it should.

When I get to the end of the thread and click on the "Go" button at the end of the "Forum Jump" item, the same thing happens all over again, and I have to go through the back button and refresh cycle again to get back to the main page.

Same thing happens when I try to reply to a PM or when I try to post in a thread; hit "submit reply", long delay, fail, and the "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" screen again.

I gave up yesterday after taking 30 minutes to get through about six threads, and I'm encountering exactly the same thing today. I'm on the same HP notebook I've used for the last 3 years (Vista, IE8), and don't have this issue on any other site - all other sites all react instantly and normally, with no delays, fails, or issues; only Corvette Forum is an issue. This just started yesterday - I have to Ctrl-C the typing window before I submit so I can Ctrl-V the content back again if it fails so I don't have to type a post all over again. Any ideas?

John, from your description it sounds like the server(s) that the forum is hosted on or the underlying infrastructure of the provider may be having problems, overloaded, saturated or under attack.

Don't waste your time looking on your end, but rather suggest to a moderator to contact their technical people to check things out on their side.

With that said, I can't say I have had any problems accessing the site, but then again I'm not a daily visitor.

JohnZ, I had similar problems several months ago. I was using a new version of Internet Explorer -- IE9.

The IB tech folks advised me to switch browsers. I started using Firefox, a free download, and it made a big difference.

I switched from IE to Mozilla/Firefox years ago and it was one of the best upgrades ever done. You can also save and import your favorites from IE to Firefox (so you don't lose anything). Also install no script add on for FF (saves your butt from most virus attacks).

Comcast has the same "dropping packets" thing here in GA. I think their entire system is a mess. I've heard too many people with the same problems and have experienced it myself.

I had a problem with CF the other day...maybe Sunday ? My bookmark is setup to go straight to the C1/C2 section. All I would get is a logon and password box at the top of the screen. I tried it several times. Then I went to the main page and then forums/C1/C2 and it worked okay.

John,

Could you try the following:

Go to Tools, Internet Options, Advanced tab and then uncheck the "Enable third-party browser extension" under the Browsing section. Restart IE and see if that works.

There have been some that said the above has improved performance with IE.

Personally, I have IE8 as well as you, but on XP, and I'm not seeing the issue you're describing despite I do visit several times per day.

Thanks - I did that, and it improved the situation substantially; I still have to use the F5 Refresh key about 1/3 of the time, but not 100% like I did before. I'll keep digging to find out what the real cause is - will probably reload IE.

Some of the ad agency trackers that you pick up on the internet hog ports that are needed for normal comminication. Try running some good ad tracker removal software (e.g.ad-aware) and see if your problem is related to an ad tracker conflict that starts up with the CF.
