number active users logged in ??
is there anywhere on the forum that shows a list of all the user accounts
that are currently logged in ????
other forums i am on use VBulletin software and the bottom of the home page usually shows this info....It's nice to know who is online and logged in at a glance...

In the red nav bar, go to Quick Links and then Whose Online:

If you have certain members that you want to know if they're logged in, you can use the Friend feature:

Add members to your Buddylist, and as long as they aren't set to invisible mode, you can see whenever they're logged in by then opening the Buddylist under the Quick Links and Open Contacts Popup option.
