My post pictures?
Why the heck would the forum want to save and host pictures we put into our posts?
Seems like a redundant waste of time and storage.
And now we have to see everyones post pictures at the top of the page. They are stupid, Id much rather see the garage photos we used to see.
What exactly is this needed?

Why would the forum want to? Maybe to prevent such a common issue where a picture that's hosted elsewhere ends up showing up as a red X because the file was deleted, renamed, moved, the website closed, the website has a bandwidth restriction, etc.
The option for members to host pictures on an external website and use the IMG tags is still available. Members aren't forced to use one over the other.
It is not uncommon for members to want to share the same picture in different topics over the course of time. In the past, that meant either trying to hotlink the photo from a prior attachment, which isn't intuitive at all, or meant re-uploading the same picture.
That is a better definition of redundant.
Not everyone can be won over, but by in large the feedback across the sites that are using the new system have been positive for such reasons as stated above.
