Is there any way to bring back the time limit cap on old threads ? Bringing back to life a thread that is just shy of being ten years old makes no sense. Especially when it concerns a product that has seen vast improvements in material quality and mounting design so as not to damage the vehicle.

I agree with you. Several forum members have recently revived 2 or 3 year old threads created by a vendor who is no longer a vendor or for products that are no longer available or practical.

A one year limit would probably be about right.

However, you probably should PM an administrator about this.

I shall do so. It truly is getting out of hand again.

It looks like most of the threads that are brought back are being done by noobies and typically as their first post or with a very low post count. Most seem to not know the "rules" and they don't seem to look at the dates of threads.

I've seen (and reported) posts by noobs that brought back back For Sale threads from 6-10 years in the past. This is simply people not reading or paying attention to the age of a thread.

Posts that brings back a really old thread can be reported using the Report Post button and the Mods will typically lock it. Still, the noobs should at least read the CF rules.

Maybe this issue should be brought up in the Steering Committee section?

There's not a rule about bringing back old threads. Used to be, but not anymore.

Thanks for the heads-up, Mike. We removed the rule because there kept being instances where someone posted to an old thread that was still useful or updated the thread with new information.

The situation you describe doesn't seem to match that, however. If you'll send me a link to the thread you are concerned about, I'll lock it to further posting or delete it.

Going forward, I'd recommend reporting any post to a thread you or someone else spots that has been bumped inappropriately after not being active for a long time. Then the moderators will close it, delete it or let it stand depending on the specific situation.
