Is there any secret to getting that to work. I participate in a variety of forums but this is the only one where I have to keep certain threads open in a separate tab to see if there are any updates.

No secret other than turning it on and reading the FAQ to help:
FAQ:
https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/faq.php
Specifically:
https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums..._subscriptions

You can manually subscribe to a thread by following the information in the aforementioned link (Subscribe to this thread under Thread Tools menu while viewing the thread) or you can set it to automatically subscribe to a thread whenever you reply to the post by adjusting your Default Thread Subscription Mode in Edit Options of the UserCP or override it by selecting Instant Email Notification under Additional Options when using the full-reply form for a specific thread.

We encourage members to take some time to read the FAQ, Stickies and Announcements, and browse the forum as well as the UserCP. There is no link that is going to delete your account and the database of the server.

Default How to delete a social group invitation notification

I have had a notification for an invitation to join a social group for years. At intervals, I have attempted to delete this but without success. Explicitly, how does one remove a notification for a social group. This group was never one I wanted to join and does not seem to exist anymore.
