Rec'd a message that I have been tagged in a post. Can you advise the possible consequence of being tagged?

It means someone posted and tagged (mentioned) your username. The message contains a link to the post where your username was mentioned.

You can disable the notification by going to UserCP:

Disable " Receive a Private Message Notification each time I am tagged"

The OP who did post my user name is good to go. I will now try to repeat his post and tag to see how that shows up.
Hence 6GenVettes has been entered. Now I will submit this post for view.

My user name did not appear in the same way as on the OP original post which triggered the alert.

Default Interesting stuff

I went back to the OP's orig post citing my user name. Then I put the mouse on it and clicked it. It brought up my profile page which is OK with me bc that can be accomplished by anyone anyway.

As said, the OP who cited my user name is OK. With that I thank you for the response to the Q. For now I will retain settings as is. Good to know I have the option to change the feature that triggered the alert.

You need to use the @ sign followed by the username, which will prompt a list of matching usernames to check. Without the @ sign before the username, no tagging is activated.

So:
