Are private messages disabled for the free registered account? I thought the free membership included 50 PMs.

To help protect the community against Spam and Scammers, new members do not have immediate access to send Private Messages until they've become "established" members. We cannot disclose exactly what an "established" member is, but know that it's fairly easy to do so if you use the site for its intended purpose. At a certain point, the system will then automatically upgrade the account with Private Message permissions.
So, no, the PMs aren't disabled for free accounts. Simply put, new members need to become "established" by using the site for its intended purpose before getting PM permissions with their free account.
