Does the forum still keep archived threads from years ago or have they been purged?
I know quite a while back I was able to retrieve a 10 year old thread I'd started but I see now, on a regular search they only go back about 20 pages.

You're running into the search results limitation of only displaying X amount of results. This is typical for a forum like CorvetteForum that has 54+ million posts / 3+ million threads.
If you want to view older content, you can do so manually. Or use the Advanced Search, select the oldest date option (Find Posts from A Year ago and older), enter more specifics of the thread you want (specific subforum), and even change the order to display oldest, first.
