What's with the requirement to update my email? It sounds like I'm being threatened with losing access to the forum if I don't.

Nobody is forcing you to respond to that, so you can ignore it if you want.

BUT keep in mind, if for some reason you forget your password to log in with, the email they have on file for you will be your only way of them helping you regain access.
So, that is why they are reminding you to keep it current.
