Donald quietly passed away in his sleep March 2. The cause of death was related to heart disease. I am still in shock and this is very hard to type to you all. Donald enjoyed the forum so much. He was always telling me about the stuff you all were talking about and showing me the pictures.

Someday we will know, where the pilots go
When their work on earth is through.
Where the air is clean, and the engines gleam,
And the skies are always blue.
They have flown alone, with the engines moan,
As they sweat the great beyond,
And they take delight, at the awesome sight
Of the would spread far and yon.
Yet not alone, for above the moan, when the earth is
out of sight,
As the make their stand, He takes their hand,
and guides them thru the night.
How near to God are these men of sod,
Who step near death's last door?
Oh, these men are real, not made of steel,
But he knows who goes before,
And how they live, and are love are beloved
But their love is most for air.
And with death about, they will still fly out,
And leave their troubles there.
He knows these things, of men and wings,
And He knows they are surely true.
And He will give a hand, to such a man
'Cause He's a pilot too.

Debra, so sorry for your loss. Don will be missed.

I believe in the Beer Fairy
You will be so, do deeply missed Don. You were a wonderful person, and spending time you in Fairbanks was one of the highlights of the trip - squeezing into the back seat of a tiny 50 year old plane, and realizing that flying in something that small was a hell of a lot better than flying in a commercial liner (this coming from someone who's terrified of flying) - hanging on and grinning ear to ear as we weaved through the trees above the heads of the moose below.....the rainbow above the lake at 2am and then hitting the bar at 3am (when it was still light out) for a couple brews after flying. You were an amazing person.....
My deepest condolences go out to his entire family....

Debra,
Your husband brought so much joy to my days. I was always sharing his stories with my wife and living vicariously through his adventures. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
