Aussie coming to US for Road Trip
Hi Guys,
A mate and I from over here in Perth Western Australia are coming to the US next April for a 35 Day Road trip across the country. Our vehicle of choice is a C6 Corvette through Hertz. We are picking the car up in Miami and heading west along the southern states, passing many cities including New Orleans, Houston, El Paso, Denver, Aspen, Las Vegas, San Deigo, San Fran and ending up in LA.
We would appreciate any hints, tips and advice you may have regarding the C6, as well as any travellers advice for our planned route.
Cheers
Brett

That will be a great vacation. If possible get a vert, 6 speed manual with a Z51 package. Plan on driving thru Panama City, Destin and Pensacola florida. Try to time your trip to see the Blue Angels. It is the Navy Aerobatic team flying F18's. Then cruise on in to Alabama. Perdido key and Orange Beach and Gulf Shores. The ferry from Fort Morgan to Daliphin Island will be a Blast. Let me know when the trip and schedule firm up. I would love to meet you down in Orange Beach. With any luck , there will be vette show at the Wharf in Orange Beach when you come thru.
Cheers,

Welcome! Your road trip sounds totally cool. You definitely need a vert. We have an '06 vert and absolutely love it. But even if you get a hard top you're gonna have a great time.

Sounds like a great road trip! My guess is that you'll feel rushed if you don't have at least 3-4 weeks for the cruise.

New Orleans (pronunced "Naw' Lens" buy locals) and San Fran are the two most individual cities in the US.
New Orleans Musts:
1. French Market Doughnuts at Cafe DuMonde in the French Quarter - -----try their chickaree coffee as well.
2. Preservation Hall - beer & Jazz by Old Timers
3. Eat Crawfish
4. Pat O’Brian’s in the Quarter for a Hurricane drink
5. Holma House up the River (classic antebellum plantation)
6. Jackson Sq. in the Qtr
7. Drive down Canal St till it turns north and eat at the Camilla grill _____(Jimmy Buffet's Favorite).
8. Eat at the Court of the Two Sisters
9. Eat at Prodomme's
Plan 2 days - you may never leave so eat more Crawfish
10. Tvl West and eat dinner at Mutates in Bureau Bridge - Cajun Music & Crawfish
11. Visit the Cajun Museum in Lafayette
12. Visit the Dixie Brewery and ask to see my uncle Joe Bruno - Tell him you're my pal. He'll fill your trunk with enough free beer for the rest of your trip.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the helpful input.. We have booked the car, and it's a vert C6 (which by next april should have the 6 speed paddle shift box).
Does anyone have the measurements (Height, Width, Depth) of the C6 Convertible boot? or any picks available? We are trying to determine how much luggage we can fit in with the roof down.
93 Cruiser, we are in Miami beach from 2nd April to the 6th, before heading to Orlando for 2 days then up to New Orleans, via Tallahasee and Pensacola, with a recommendation to take Scenic Hwy 30A. Not sure where Orange Beach is though?
JFTaylor, will be sure to stop buy and see your uncle Joe..

I live in Las Cruces, New Mexico about 50 miles West of El Paso. Are you going to travel from El Paso North through the back roads to Denver or head straight West to California? If heading West on I-10 you will go right through Las Cruces. I would be glad to meet you and introduce you to local cuisene. Some good Mexican food, not the Tex-Mex kind. You will also find that if you stay on I-10 from New Orleans through to El Paso there is a lot of very straight highway and the speed limit is 80 mph. I would really suggest taking some of the off highway routes from Houston as far West as you can. There is some very pretty land and good winding roads. Have fun when you get here and be safe.

My brother and I did sorta this same thing last year. Only we did it round trip. Cost to cost and back. And the first leg of the coast to coast we did non-stop. As in 40 hours straight. But on the way back, we did kinda what is sounds like you guys are going to be doing and pretty much using a similar route, but in reverse.
And I can say without a doubt, we loved it! You are in for an amazing trip, my friend. I have a piece of advice for you, though. Take tons of pictures/video. Even though we thought we were taking a lot of pictures, I wish now that I had more. And you may want to think about documenting your trip. We actually got our trip published in Corvette Enthusiast magazine! I'm sure they, or another Corvette/auto magazine would be interested in your story as well. Have fun with it and post up some pics when you're done!

Thanks guys,
We have amended the route a bit, no longer heading through el paso from San antonio to Santa Fe, we are going up through Dallas to Oklahoma City, to get onto Route 66 for the trip across to Santa Fe. Will be around 550 miles of Route 66 which we both desperately want to do in the vette.
93 Cruiser, any pics or info is greatly appreciated mate, thankyou
rcnknusa, we are heading north from santa fe to colorado, so unfortunately will miss Las Cruces but if things change will definitely take you up on your kind offer.
scotp71, we are taking a couple of camera's, video camera and laptop to document the trip as much as possible. Will certainly post it up here when we get back.
Cheers
Brett

Hi Guys, you have to cruise the strip in South Beach Miami, I live down here in South Florida so would be happy to meet up with you and go for a cruise, I'm a Brit living here, my brother lives in OZ in Hocking.
US27 is a good place to open up the Vette you can take it all the way to Orlando, more of a country road not to many cops, I take the Bike out there to open it up. You will have a blast

Also, if you mean Hocking in Perth Western Australia, then your brother only lives about 15 minutes from me... Small world...

I'm at the Orlando Airport area, let me know if there's something specific your looking to do, or just cruise thru. I wear Virgin Blue shirts to work. We did your live satellite on them in Christchurch. Also did Deep Freeze. PM me if you want info!

Welcome to the forum guys. Your trip sounds like a lot of fun. My wife and I plan to do a similiar trip in your country in the future.
