I've lurked here a bit and found some interesting information. Thanks. Not sure why I didn't join right away!
About eight months ago, I was all set up to purchase what I've always considered my dream car. Hold on....it was an AC Cobra, or at least a good replica. Well.....a couple of things weren't right about that. First, I couldn't FIT in one (6'5"), in fact I couldn't get my left leg in enough to shut the door. Plus, I realized there are virtually no creature comforts including a top (except for ugly ones).
So I looked at Corvettes.....so glad I did. Searched the internet for a long time, visited some car lots and finally found the right car for the right price. Ended up with an '02 Coupe, six speed, spiral grey metallic with, I believe, every factory option available. It was a company lease vehicle up from California.
I joined a local Corvette Club (Rose City) and have done about three tours and an autocross. Fun...fun...and more fun.
Even though I'm 52, I didn't buy one for any of the suspected reasons. No...not a mid-life crisis, no....not to attract chicks, no.....not to just be cool. I bought it because I could afford it now, I've always owned practical cars...time to change that, and I wanted something I could easily be competitive in when I want to do something like autocross. Never had a rear drive hot rod. Wanted to experience it. Sure glad I made the move.
Had a couple of problems so far....steering lock and hazard light switch. Fixed the switch myself but the lock cost me.
Congratulations on becoming a first time vette owner with the acquisition of the 02 coupe! I became a first time vette owner in February at age 49 --- much like you, I bought mine because I could now afford one.
Thanks all....nice welcome! Man, I'm not going to have any time to myself anymore....a Corvette Forum, a Drum Forum and a Boating Forum...whew...what's next?
