Hello all, my name is Jeremy from Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. I just bought my first Vette!
I've wanted one since I was 7. Back in 1979 my dad and I went to the Chevy dealer in a St. Louis suburb where I grew up and sitting all alone on the showroom floor was a brand new 1979 Corvette.. It was beautiful. I remember it like it was yesterday. Rick Mears had just won the Indy 500 a few weeks prior and John Wayne had just died. Just a year prior the Vette had been the pace car in the Indy 500.
I could see that my dad had his eyes on that Vette too.. God, it was gorgeous. Corvette Yellow, rally wheels, spoilers.. Man, what a car.
I wanted him to buy that car. We left that day with a station wagon. But hell, back then, the 70's, Carter, inflation, unemployment, 14% interest rates on homes.. That car was around $10k back then, like $60k or more by todays dollars.. That and a family, the station wagon was the only logical choice.
Well, here I am almost 30 years later. I've owned all kinds of cars, bikes, etc., never a Vette though. Hell, I've never even ridden in one before.
It's a 1979 Corvette. It's in great shape, has 84k original miles. Everything on the car is original right down to the Chevy Rally Rims! The factory AC still works! Appears to have every option offered. The only thing that does not work in the clock on the dome light and hood light.
I'm getting new tires on it tomorrow and having the brakes looked at.
All it needs is some fresh paint and a new interior... The interior is not bad.. I figure the door panels, seats and carpet is all it will take to freshen it up. From 10 feet away you would think the thing is brand new.
I paid $6k. Is that a good deal? It runs and drive great... Aside from needing tires, I figure a front end alignment, and the left rear brake froze up on me when I drove it home.. That is being looked at tomorrow as well.
Anyway, I look forward to sharing lots of info and learning about the car of my dreams...
Congrats on the 79 vette, Jeremy!! You will be driving around for quite a while with a big "corvette grin" on your face! Welcome to the Forum. They are great for learning more about vettes and you will meet a lot of new friends.
Thank you! Got the new tires on today. Brand new BF Goodrich Radial T/A's, in the proper size no less... Glad to see the fugly Coopers it came with gone.. Man does it ride nice with the new tread.. Gonna replace the tie rod ends this weekend and then get the front end aligned.
Had some good fun with it this weekend. Riding around, it's like being on my V-Rod.. I get so many looks, and of course waves from other Vette drivers.. It's fun to be in the "club"...
