I had a 1984 that my dad gave me in college, they are great cars but can be "tempermental". Have it tuned up, does the dash go in and out? Does the tranny have any issues? These are all things I had to look at when I started to really drive mine.
They are cool in the fact that no other C4 has the same engine, the sad thing is its a little down on power but they can be made to run quite well. A better tranny, gears, and an exhaust will give you some major improvement
Good job on scoring a "hard to find on in decent condition" year.
Thanks you for your comments!
My 84 has a custome dash populated with Pro Comp gauges.
It does not have the original engine and there is a question as to what the origin of the 350 came out of. One thing for sure - it pulls very hard and the tranny transitions well. Have not yet been able to see\read the motor stamp to determine what it is - any ideas on where to look? The intake is topped with a Rochester Quadrojet 4B. Had one of these on my first car - 67 Impala SS 327. The resonance is pretty bad and would like to get a bit quieter on the exhaust tone - any recommendation here? I also beleive it has the original shocks and if you run over a dime, you can feel it - any recommendations on shocks? Sorry to be so inquisitive?
Welcome aboard and congrats on the 84 Corvette. You may want to post your questions in the C4 Section(s) below as that is where the most C4 folks will see your post.
If you in to a stock ride get stock ones. If you want it to handle better, softer, stiffer, than look in to the aftermarket but these guys here would be better suited to help you.
There are a few places to check the numbers. On the front passenger side in front of the head there is a flat spot, get those number. On the back of the block on the flang behind the driver side head there is another number, you will need that. Also there is a number in the rear of the block but you cant get it without removing the tranny.
Pull a valve cover and get the numbers, those are pretty easy to figure out which enginge/engines they were used on. For the people who tested and said the 84 vette topped out at 139mph , I can not confirm nor deny my prior statement...lol
Oh and for comfort on your hands you may want to swap out the steering wheel. Good job on the score, get those block numbers and we will see what that bad boy came out of.
Congrats on the 84 vette, Sivle!! You will be driving around for quite a while with a big "corvette grin" on your face! Welcome to the Forum. They are great for learning more about vettes and you will meet a lot of new friends.
