Someone, somewhere, tell me what the heck is wrong with my headlights. They will not lock up at night, when I need them. Always drift down, and will not stay up. If I work on them during the day, in my garage, they work fine. If I check them out with the ignition off, they work fine. I oil the mechnisms in case they are having a hard time operating, but that does not seem to be it. One of them has the gear still turning when they are done going up or down, but I can't seem to find out what to fix, replace, or junk. If someone has a solution, please let me know.
I am sick of driving with one, or no headlights.
P.S. I have owned a 70 vette for 35 years, with vacuum headlights, and never had a problem.
I also have a C5. But, this 89 is giving me problems I don't know how to deal with. Thanks, in advance.

I would surmise that your gears are worn and that's the reason it
won't stay up while driving.I had similiar problems with my '90 ZR-1
and after I had the bronze gears put in,it was good as new.
Until you get it fixed you can turn the headlight actuators manually
till the headlights stay up locked in place. It's been awhile but,I think
that's the correct procedure.
Just spend a little more to get the bronze gears instead of the nylon
ones and you won't have to worry about it ever unless the actual motor
goes out.
Although you've received excellent information from C5R USA, you may also want to post problems with your '89 in the C4 section. You should get additional information/suggestions faster than here in the Welcome section.
