My first attempt at a thread......I am in the process of buying a C4 and am currently looking at a 1996 LT4 Collector Edition. Unfortunately it is located in the Northeast and I live west of D.C.......so it I can not easily go and see it and must rely on long distance communication. Anyway, 2 issues that I would like feedback on:
1. The antenna does not go down. I assume this is probably an easy fix and somewhat common? Maybe a plastic gear or the worse thing a motor? Can this be fixed by a backyard mechanic like myself? Or does it require a special tool?
2. Horn does not work. For some reason this really concerns me. I have very limited experience in tackling horns and imagine all kinds of small things falling out when taking apart. I will probably take to a Chevrolet dealership or Corvette specialist. Anyway, could this be as simple as a fuse and why would a fuse blow? I have not had fuses blow since the 70's. Could this be a manifestation of a bigger electrical issue? Is this an expensive fix?
Anyway, that is my first thread. Hope I did it correctly.
Also, I really like the CF website and the emphasis on keeping it clean and wholesome. So many 'sports car' website get tacky quickly and can be embarrassing at work or in the home and really isn't necessary ......well done and worth the effort....

The antenna is no big deal. Usually they break the connector on the mast. You can order a new mast kit and it will come with the socket to remove it from outside the car. No major disassembly, or you can do what I am getting ready to do, and as SO many others are going to. Just cut it off low and push the remainder back in the fender well. Cap it with some silicone and a black cap. Then install one of the widely available universal antennas. They tuck inside the car in the back deck and work as well if not better than the stock.
As for the horn, this could be the horn itself, the buttons in the steering wheel, the fuse, or the relay. Does it honk when you walk away from it and the keyless system arms the security? Although the dealer is the easiest and a good route, you can also just post for help on the forum and we can walk you through it.
Either way welcome to the forum! I am a fairly new guy too, but a horrible forum rat
Welcome aboard and good luck with the purchase of the Corvette. Be sure to visit the C4 Sections below as that is where the guys with all the answers reside.
Welcome KC to the forum. I know how you feel about the situation. When I bought mine it was a thousand miles away and didn't get to see it in person until it pulled up on the back of a car transporter. That makes it very hard to make a deal. Good luck with the purchase of your car. Bob
