I have been lurking for awhile now and decided to join. I have read a lot of interesting stuff here. I have a 1981 corvette (my favorite body style). I just recently installed a 2 roll aluminum radiator and the 11 inch dual spal fans from Midamerica. The fans turn on at 95 degrees and off at 75. Well the fans do come on at 95 and stay on because the engine stays hot. I have read the thread about the dual fans and what others are experiencing. What I propose to do is cut the bottom half of my original shroud and re-install it so that it forces the air from the fans up towards the engine to desipitate the heat from the engine.
I have also been told by other corvette enthusiest here in Tucson to get rid of the electric fans because they do not pull enough air and to put the shroud and the original fan back on. I really don't know what temperature I am running at since the temperature guage went hay wire and I had to order another one which has not come in yet. I think that the fans turning on at 95 is already getting to hot. I am thinging of purchasing a sensor that turns the fans on at 85 and stops at 65. I have also been told that the 4 roll radiators are better than the 2 roll radiators because the water moves through the 2 roll radiator so fast that it does not give the water enough time to cool down. Don't know if I truly believe that.
Anyhow, it will be interesting posting with all of you. Take care.
Welcome to the Forum!!!!!!!! Good luck getting that temp issue sorted out. I'm sure the folks in C3 General will be able to help you. Enjoy the Forums.
Hey all, thanks a lot. I must say that I am in the mechanical designing field just to let you know, so if you have anything that needs to be looked at or considered, like in my case, let me know. Please forgive my run on sentence. Once again, thanks for the welcome.
