Looking for a place to start

Like the rest I am a new member looking to buy a vette eventually. Trying to do my homework first. I have little mechanical experience and will need to find a shop to help with any major projects but would be comfortable with minor issues. Anyway I am interested in C3 corvette. Of course matching numbers is preferred but what kind of headaches would I be getting into in a lower priced nonmatching car. The advantage besides lower price would be that I would be more comfortable in actually driving the car more than one that was a fully restored show quality car. Also I figure insurance would be less. Anyone have experience that would steer me one way or the other?
